The BVB (Bureau Voorlichting Binnenvaart) has launched a new sequence of interactive posters. These posters are more than a nice picture on the wall, because we’ve added Augmented Reality to them. If you point your smartphone/tablet at the poster with the Blue Road app, you can climb aboard a barge and take a look around. We’ll give you a look in the world of a inland entrepreneur. The user of this app can obtain more information of the inland shipping by watching animations, videos, and take a look around in a 3D pilothouse.
There are currently 8 posters of ships available;
1. Veridis Quo (spits)
2. Nadorias (cargo ship)
3. Gaasterland (suction hopper dredger)
4. Shalimar (damen river liner)
5. Veerhaven (pusher)
6. Forenso (roll-on/roll-off ship)
7. Sardana (powder tanker)
8. Vorstenbosch (inland tanker)
In presence of the visitors of the STC in Rotterdam, the chairman of the Industry Committee, René Overveld, revealed the poster of the smallest ship Veridis Quo. The owner of the spits Veridis (Blessing Logistics) joined the ELV, sponsor of this poster.
At the Maritiem College in Ijselmuiden, Nelie Groen had the honor to reveal the poster of the cargo ship Nadorias. This cargo ship of the owner Sendo Shipping is the first ship that is converted to a hybrid propulsion.
Along with the poster of the suction hopper dredger Gaasterland, the foundation Stichting Beunschepen handed out the first 3 posters to young people who were present at the releases.
A new way of inland promotion
“This is a modern progressive industry. That’s what we would like to show to everyone.” said Wilco Volker of the BVB. “This also includes promotion and education which connects to this industry. Apps are indispensable nowadays. Everybody owns a smartphone and/or tablet and can download the most useful apps. Reading the latest news, banking, email or taking and editing photo’s; all these options are at your fingertips nowadays. It is time to respond to this with inland promotion. This is where we came up with the Augmented Reality- technology. We used this technique in The Blue Road app. ”
