Imagination becomes reality with TekenaAR

Augmented Reality creates so many new options in terms of playfullness.

With AR you’re able to accomplish things that used to be only possible with your imagination. Imagination is very valuable, but wouldn’t it be nice if your ideas could become real?

An example of this is what you can do with an app such as tekenaAR (perhaps best translated as: ARtist):
A colouring plate was only a 2D, inanimate object, with a pinch of technological magic this artwork comes to life! Your drawing can now be viewed in 3D, from all sides.

What you can use your imagination for now is to think about in how many ways you could use this AR tool to your benefit.

Popping colours in a Microsoft Hololens

Our client Avery Dennison is a worldwide leader in adhesive technologies, display graphics and packaging materials. As Avery Dennison is all about innovation it’s no wonder that they occasionally partner up with us to showcase their products and services.

At Label Expo 2017 we helped out in a part of the Avery Dennison booth called “changing perceptions” and our task was to help communicate the story about Avery Dennisons new Clear Hotmelt Adhesive. In short the story is as follows ; in contrast to the competition Avery Dennison devised an adhesive that allows transparant labels to stay completely transparant where conventional adhesives will turn transparant labels slightly yellow under exposure to UV light. Platipus brought their Microsoft HoloLens to the Avery Dennison stand for an impressive interactive presentation about the Clear Hotmelt Adhesive.

The booth contained physical samples of the colourful labels being used on frozen food packages. And this was already a great display of the adhesive technology, but our friends from advertising agency b-creative had the brilliant idea of adding an interactive part to the booth where through a couple of interactions the visitor would learn more about the surprising properties of the Clear Hotmelt Adhesive and be rewarded with virtual pop art. The brilliant thing here is that we used the Microsoft HoloLens to produce pop art holograms and this displaying technique makes it crystal clear how vivid colours can be against a transparant background. After answering ( by air tapping and/or yelling “cheese!” ) just a few questions the booth slowly turned into a virtual museum with bright coloured popup pop art!

This project is the result of a collaboration between b-creative and Platipus.

Visual support for marine engineers

“Dear engineer, welcome to your new job.” That’s how engineers at Aegir Marine are welcomed into the company’s Seal Bonding app.
With the help of Augmented Reality (AR), they see a 3D animation of seal bonding procedure step by step. This procedure should be carried out under the water, by divers. Because of these challenging circumstances, it’s extra helpfull that the engineers have seen this visual support with the procedure.

By scanning the reference image with an iPad Pro, a model of the system of seals appears. Step by step, the engineer is guided through the procedure of replacing and bonding the seals. Each of the 9 steps is described, supplemented with tips and tricks. After each step, you can then see the action to be taken “in practice”: In AR, the seal’s 3D model is placed on the reference image, allowing you to view the enlightening animation from all sides.

Behind the scenes of Stedin

This Stedin Augmented Reality (AR) app is a great example of how to bring a low-interest product like electric power to the spot in an interesting way.
The app is intended to inform residents of the neighborhoods where transmission system operator Stedin serves. Or, for example, to help recruit engineers at study and career choice events.

The AR experience  -an app available for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets- shows what happens behind the scenes of Stedin’s electricity network. In the app you can view a demo in a transformer house or take an educational tour. With this tour you can see in which areas Stedin is active, and what happens in case of a power failure and how to fix it.
